Both the morning and afternoon students started the unit on pets! We also started some art work around St. Patricks day. Both groups created shamrock stamp art and cutting and pasting onto a shamrock template (they got to practice their fine motor skills).
EDC A.M. The morning group started reading, "Dogs Colourful Day" where dog ends up with a bunch of coloured spots on him from his day of adventures. Each student got to draw a coloured dot on dog (outline of a dog on a white board) and at the end of the story got to spray dog with water and wash his spots off using a sponge! They also started reading, "If You See a Whale" by Ms. Tracy. The students had to label each animal from the story and then had a chance to throw the animal (e.g. dolphin) into a bucket of water followed by an action. Everyone had a blast! Next week the students will have a chance to be a vet at our dramatic play vet center! Kindergarten & EDC P.M. - The afternoon group had a chance to learn about a variety of different pets and what they need to be happy, healthy and safe. We learned about dogs, cats, bunnies, turtles and birds so far ! The students will then take this learning and create their very own pet habitats out of shoe boxes and loose parts. We will be starting our shoe boxes next week. I've done this activity in the past and it is always a huge hit. Next week we will be learning all about veterinarians and how they help keep our pets healthy! The students will all have a chance to play at out dramatic vet center with vet supplies, checklists and play animals! Reminders: - P.M. students: If you haven't already sent a shoe box to school with your child please do so early next week! - I will be calling all parents at the beginning of next week to schedule a time for interviews. **Wednesday, March 18th from 4:30-8:00 will be for Kindergarten students only! This is a student lead interview, I will have stations set up in our classroom for your child to lead you through and show you what they've been learning! You do not need to sign up for a time, it is an open house concept so you are welcome to come at any point during the evening. - ** Thursday, March 19th from 8:00-1:00 will be scheduled interviews for EDC parents only! I will be calling each EDC parents to set up a time, if this Thursday does not work for some of you we can figure out another time that works best! A note from Mrs. Fraser: Dear Parents and Guardians, Student-Led Conferences are coming soon! The purpose of these conferences is to provide your child the opportunity to share their accomplishments and celebrate all they have learned this year. Please note, we have made some changes to this year’s conference schedule:
The Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place in the Library on both of these dates. You are invited to please visit with your child to shop for books. We look forward to seeing everyone on Wednesday evening, March 18, for a night of celebrating our learning! Sincerely, Ms. Brenna Fraser Principal, Rosscarrock School [email protected]
